It’s hard to believe it’s already 2020. Thanks to our generous donors, this year has all the makings of one filled with joy. We have many projects on the horizon and we would like to share a little update on each project with you!
Medal of Honor Park Expansion
We are so excited to be a part of the expansion of the Medal of Honor Park. When this park was renovated a few years back, concerns were brought up about the lack of suitable play structures for 2-5 year olds. The Colin’s Joy Project Creativity Squad is looking for input from our local community kids on how exactly we should expand and design the park. Everyone knows kids have the best imaginations, so we can’t do it without them! Please join us on February 25th for our first Creativity Squad meeting. Click here for more info on times and location. Construction will hopefully begin on this project this fall.
The South Boston Catholic Academy Education Outdoor Playspace
We are currently working with South Boston Catholic Academy on creating an educational outdoor space. Our hope is to help them develop a play area that sparks creativity and critical thinking in a fun environment. We feel so privileged to be able to work on this project at the school that’s played an integral role in the support of the McGrath family. We do not currently have a construction date set for this project but hope to have one planned soon!
Boston Marine Park Playground Renovation
With a large donation by Colin’s Joy Project, South Boston’s Marine Park will be getting a big facelift. We are working with the State of Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation to build an interactive and playful space for children to enjoy all the wonder that childhood brings, for adults to exercise, and for the community to come together. We plan to begin construction on this project in the Spring of 2021.
Colin’s Courtyard
We are so excited about this special project. We are working with the city of Boston Parks & Recreation and Boston Housing Authority to create a community courtyard outside the Monsignor Powers residence, where the accident happened. This courtyard will include a new vibrant entrance at the corner of L & 6th Street to welcome the community into a courtyard with a great lawn, lots of seating, a reading nook, an interactive water feature, and a memorial for Colin that includes the painted rocks from children in our community. Our hope is to provide a multigenerational space where families can come and interact in a relaxed, playful, and joyful environment. Construction date is still being considered due to other improvements at the Monsignor Powers residence, but the planning is still full steam ahead. We hope in 2021!
As you can see, we are busy and so proud of all the ways Colin is being remembered in our community, thanks to the help of our supporters, donors, and our city and state officials. We would like to express how truly grateful we are for each and every one of you who has been a part of this journey with us and has had a hand in making these projects happen. We are also continuing to build our community partnerships and identify new ways to connect with community organizations, so that this is a year of giving as well.
We look forward to spreading joy in Colin’s name throughout the year, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated on the progress as these projects take flight.
